With public distrust of corporate accounting practices and competitive pressures mounting, a leading regional telecommunications player wanted to strengthen customer confidence and preserve its market position. To do so, the carrier needed to improve billing operations, cut costs and make its operations leaner and more efficient. Achieving these goals would, in part, require revamping its IT infrastructure and improving processes. While many components were involved in the final solution, a key one involved the use of ASA’s optimization and evaluation tools to assess and evaluate the selection of key products and services.

When this telecommunications operator wanted to seal its success in a highly competitive market by cutting costs and enhancing customer service, a world renowned consulting firm developed a strategic plan to achieve both goals: migrate the company’s mainframe IT environment to an outsourced data center. This involved moving more than 15 terabytes of stored data and 85,000 pounds of equipment from the company’s in-house data center to the out-sourced data center.
